Tanzanite Jewellery
Tanzanite is a gemstone named after the Tanzania, where it was discovered in 1967. Its value as a gemstone is based on its unique colour characteristic; it can appear alternately in blue, violet and burgundy colours, depending on the orientation of the viewer. Another factor that makes tanzanite valuable is its rarity. It can only be found in Tanzania and nowhere else.

Tanzanite and Diamond Ring
There have been allegations of illegal trade and export of tanzanite. Some even claims that it is used to fund terrorist organizations because trade is loosely supervised by the government. In recent times, however, the trade has been cornered similar to the trade in diamonds by only a small group which aimed to restrict its circulation and thereby raise its price. This monopoly claims that it only wants to stabilize the world price of the stone. The cutting centre for tanzanite is in Jaipur, India, but credit can be given to the New York jeweller Tiffany & Company for its popularity. The latter is the jewellery company the first proposed the name tanzanite and did the marketing campaign for the stone.
