Body Jewellery
Jewellery sets are, usually, used as body ornaments. However, other than the usual bodily parts adorned with jewellery—ears, neck, wrist, ankle, and fingers or toes, the creativity of some people has come to realize the other parts of the body where different types of jewellery can be placed. However, history reveals that body piercing is not a modern-day interest, as some have realized. Moreover, during the ancient times, body piercing had already been practiced as scholars found out and discovered piercings to the mummified bodies. In fact, the Bible depicts some uses of jewellery during Abraham’s time, where ear piercings denote slavery. Further, in the sixteenth century, nose piercing is a common practice among Indians, and surprisingly, ear piercing among men is not that “modern” after all, as men of many non-Western cultures has been practising ear piercing a long time ago.

Moreover, this trend of body piercing has become more relevant as the advent of modern technology made the manufacture of these body jewellery easier and faster—plus the fact that they are already mass produced. Extensive body jewellery that are now sold readily include navel jewellery, belly button rings, tongue jewellery, eyebrow rings and barbells, spikes, balls, ear jewellery, nipple rings, and nose studs. Further, temporary tattoos—transfer or airbrush—is somehow considered as a body jewellery and some accessories such as toe rings, belly chains, arm bands nail rings also display artistic variations and such uniqueness in designs of these jewellery pieces yield items like glow in the dark pieces. Lastly, since body piercing require invasion in the body’s tissue or the body’s barrier—skin–it is important to practice good hygiene to avoid infection.
