Amber
Amber, strictly speaking, not a gemstone since it made from the tree’s resin that is found on its bark. It is not mineralized and therefore is not a stone in any strict sense, but it is still used in jewellery making. Amber is very old, since it is the fossilized form of tree resin. If it has not yet reached the 60 to 90-million year old limit, it might still be soft enough to be called copal instead. Amber comes in a variety of exciting colours; the most common being a yellow-orange combination. Other colours are pale white, pale lemon yellow, dark brown and even almost black. The most sought after colours are red, green and blue with blue being the rarest of all ambers. Translucent (totally transparent) amber is the most expensive and the most sought-after; although people also value opaque and cloudy ambers (trapped bubbles).
